Series: Worship the King

Description

Worship the King #1 “To See Him Clearly” Isaiah 6

Intro: Quote Isaiah 6: 1-9a

• That Vision shaped Isaiah’s Life!
• That Vision has shaped Christian Worship!
 Had to find a model for worship that does not lean heavily on Isaiah’s vision.

Review: True Worship
Giving God what He Desires, Deserves, Demands
JOHN 4:23
True worshipper will worship in spirit and
Truth…for such the Father seeks…

Franklin Segler, “Christian Worship” --- Isaiah 6:1-9 as Model
• Revelation, Adoration, Confession, proclamation, dedication, commission.
• Next Six Sundays…. On Worship… Corporate!

Goal = More thoughtful, intentional… (what and why’s of worship)
 Why did you come here this morning?
(habit, faithfulness, fellowship, music…)

Worship Involves Revelation… Catching a Glimpse of God’s Glory.

Isaiah 6:1

In Worship, we see the LORD for who He really is; and see ourselves, our circumstances, in the light of His glory.

ILL – Larry O’Donnell, CEO of Waste Management, new trainee…
• Supervisors did not Really know Him!

In Worship, we see the LORD for who He really is; and see ourselves, our circumstances, in the light of His glory.

Worship provides clear vision in a cloudy world!
Life Clouds Our Vision
Exp – “In the year of king Uzziah’s death” is more than a chronological marker … biographical, political, social, …context.

• Isaiah’s Crisis in midst of Transition…uncertainty.
Uzziah was the best King since Solomon (50+ years!)
ILL – Imagine Eisenhower still President
 Able Administrator; Military Leader; Security, prosperity, Growth
 Isaiah was a young man connected to the Court…
 Dark Clouds were gathering… Strong, Hostile Forces…
 Isaiah was Afraid…Insecure…Went to the Temple in the year of King Uzziah’s Death…

Every Worship Encounter takes place in a Context (personal)
• You did not walk in here as a blank Slate. You brought “Stuff” with you --- burdens, baggage…hurting, happy, hopeful or discouraged.

You brought LIFE with you.
Life Clouds our Vision of God.

ILL – Like the Fog we have seen lately…

App – Sin Clouds Our Vision (or Course)… More Benign Blindness
• Plans – like clutter that clouds our Vision (My Will)
• Pain – Eye puffed with tears… (My Loss)
• Prosperity – Blinded by our own Strength
--- Only in his weakness did Isaiah See LORD!

Be Thou my vision O LORD of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art!

I Want to See You…

T/S - Life Clouds Our Vision… would you confess that to be True?
• Busy-ness; Burdens; Ambitions; Drives and Desires…they all combine to put us in a Fog…
Worship Clarifies. Worship Provides Clear Vision.
Exp – It was True for Isaiah in the Temple. He found Clear Vision.
His Vision of the LORD was directly connected to His context.
a) Lord (aodonai) = the Sovereign (1, 8, 11) not YHWH
b) Temple = The Big House… “palace” …
c) Sitting on a Throne = There is a King in Heaven!

Enough to show Isaiah’s vision connected to His Crisis (context). He was anxious, afraid about moving on without Uzziah. In Worship, He caught a vision of God…. on His Throne!

ILL – I can’t Read without good Light anymore… (little glasses)
• I See better in good Light.

App – In Worship, we find better Light to See by..
• Worship must be God-Centered.
• “Experience” driven Worship is too much like Life!
 We are driven by our “experiences” day after day…Worship gives us the Light of His Glory!
 NOT, “How I feel”, but, “Who He Is!”

In Worship, we see the LORD for who He really is; and see ourselves, our circumstances, in the light of His glory.
Worship provides clear vision in a cloudy world!

Conclusion
John 12:41 – A comment by John on Isaiah 6
(John 1:14)

Jesus is our Clearest Revelation, our Vision, of God.
Jesus Is our Best Focus in Worship.

Rev. 5:13 – Myriad, thousands, all creation in Worship
Worthy is the Lamb Who was slain

We Worship when we Survey the wondrous cross, on which the Prince of glory died; and count but loss our richest gain, pouring contempt on all our pride.y
