When it Works. t/s – God Created us to Worship Him (called and redeemed Church) We want to please Him… Give Him what He desires! Isaiah 6: 1-9a (Model for Worship) Review: In Worship, we see God for Who He really is, and See ourselves in the light of His glory. Worship clarifies our cloudy lives. Revision: “Who He Really Is” might be a little Strong. Partial – We don’t know God Fully… Lofty/Robe; Holy; temple filled with smoke… Hymn #2 vs. 3a; Hymn #6 vs. 1a Now we see Him in Part…. Dimly… He Is too Glorious for Us to See Fully! Sufficient – We do not know Him fully, but we Know all we need to Know of Him! Creation; Israel; Scripture; Jesus Transcendence – God is other than us… Lofty and Exalted; Holy Immanence – God is Near, accessible, available, approachable… Vs. 3 – Isaiah 57:15 This brings a Balance in our Vision of the LORD…. Between… • Casual, Flippant, careless Familiarity • Fearful, dread…cringe a thought…Avoid… • Love and Respect…. Adoration! In Worship, we respond to the LORD’s Self-Revelation with Adoration. • A softening of the English Language. • “Awesome” = Cool, enjoyable… Overwhelm with reverence & fear! Adore = misused today…softening of vocabulary I adore puppies, chocolate, children…soft, sweet word Adore – to regard with utmost esteem, love and respect. t/s – the seraphim serve as a model of worship as Adoration. Adoration as Disposition (vs. 2) Exp – Disposition speaks to the whole Inclination of our lives. (physical, mental, emotional… Theo-centric) • God seated…seraphim standing (under authority) • Reverence, Humility and Service… They were flying or hovering AROUND the LORD! The LORD is the Center of their Being! (existence) ILL – 50th anniversary… Rebellious, Disrespectful, Neglectful Son… stood up and waxed eloquent about parents.. I heard the community’s collective stomach turn These people honor me with their Lips, but Their hearts are far from Me! (Isaiah 29) App – Worship begins with the Heart… Inclination..Theocentric! “True worship consciously sets God at the center of all life.” --- Ralph P. Martin • If you have no love for corporate worship, if you find yourself critical, bored, passive… It may be a reflection of your Disposition. t/s - Adoration begins in the Heart, but it does not stay there, it always finally finds a Voice! Adoration as Declaration (vs. 3) Exp – Vs. 3 finally Isaiah HEARS… An Antiphonal Choir?! More on the content of their declaration later. Today… They spoke To One Another! Adoration as Verbal and Corporate! ILL – Charlie Graves… Singing with all his Heart! App – Adoration begins in the Heart, but does not stay there… ..True Worship finds a Voice…. Participatory! • Our Worship must be Participatory. Gathering… Show love and concern Pray… Pray Sing… Lift up your voice! Give… Give! Hear the Truth…. Sound the Amen!
