Quote Isaiah 6: 1-7 Review: In Worship, we see God as He has revealed Himself to Us, and we see our selves in the light of His Glory (Revelation) In worship, we Adore Him (Fear and Love…Value) Disposition (heart inclined) and Declaration In Worship, We Confess our Sin. • Acknowledge sins to God (not to others) • Seek God’s forgiveness…Mercy • Find Assurance of Pardon How Do we Do Confess Our Sins? • Songs, “When He had purged our stains…” Hymn #142 – vs. 2 Just as I Am (SBC great Litany) • Prelude, prayers… silence… Public Prayers “Please Forgive us of our sins (pause), In Jesus Name.” • Invitation • Probably could use more prescribed, Response… If you are not painfully and powerfully aware of your own sinfulness, You are not worshiping… You are not truly in His Presence! Why Do We Confess Our Sin in Corporate Worship? Confession Eliminates Pride Exp – Religious Activity can be hazardous to your spiritual health. It tends to Foster Pride! ILL – Jesus told a story about public Worship without Confession Luke 18: 9-14 App – Pride is blind. It can see neither its own sin nor the Glory of God! Confession Erases Shame and Condemnation Exp – Many (Here today) live overwhelmed with guilt and Shame… They avoid worship… They need to hear us confess our sin, and receive God’s Forgiveness! Ill – A story is told of Jesus and an adulterous woman in the Place of worship… “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.” App – If we ignore sin when we worship, we neglect the one Great need of every person… Forgiveness/Pardon! Confession Establishes Authenticity in Our Worship Exp – Isaiah’s Confession draws us to him (repeat vs. 5 – woe is me) We are attracted by authenticity. Prideful Insincerity puts us off. ILL – Just once, I would like to have a come as you are Sunday. (as opposed to putting on our very best) Come just like you look when you roll out of Bed! App – We are not a pretty as we seem! • Not physically…emotionally, relationally…spiritually! • “I am a man of unclean lips, I live among a people…” When we gather for Worship, We need to Confess our Sin! Inv. – In Silence, kneel or raise hand, and confess your sins. Hear the Word of the Lord, “1 John 1:9” |
