Series: Worship the King
DescriptionWorship the Kings #5 “Serving with Gladness” Isaiah 6Intro: There is an old preacher joke that you have heard many times • Little boy looking at memorial plaque in church foyer. “Who are all these people?” • Preacher, “Those are the names of the brave men who died in the Service.” • Morning service or Evening Service? t/s – When we gather for Worship, why do we call it a “Service?” Isaiah can help us! Review Isaiah’s Model for Worship (I have noticed Improvement) Revelation In Worship, we see the LORD; and ourselves in the Light of His glory. Adoration In Worship, we Adore the LORD (heart, lives, lips) expressing love and respect. Confession In Worship, we Confess our Sin Eliminate Pride; Ease Guilt/Shame; Establish Authenticity Proclamation In Worship, We Hear God’s Word Proclaimed Show Him love and Respect… Listen! Dedication (Franklin Segler’s Outline) Worshipping, We Serve God. Responsive Reading Worshipping, We Serve God. Sometimes preacher and theologians separate Worship and Service as if they are two distinctive aspects of the life of Faith. In truth they cannot be separated. Our Worship and our Service are one. Ill - Like dissecting muscle from tendon…kill both! Worship Is Service • Story of Moses in Exodus 3:12 You shall worship Me at this mountain • The vocabulary of OT and NT speak of Worship as Service! • Service (God-centered), NOT “Experience!”(man-centered) Service Is Worship • Children, homeless, outreach, soccer team, teaching, … ILL – Eldon Trueblood, “Company of the Committed” speaks Of finding a printed order of worship that concluded With, “The End of Worship --- the Beginning of Service” • To dissect them is to weaken both. Worshipping, We Serve God. True Worship Moves Us to Serve Isaiah 6:8-9 (Isaiah’s Worship Model Is His Call to Service) The whole text moves toward Service. Worship Involves a Sending Exp – When God speaks to Us, He Sends us into Service. • Isaiah’s difficult tasking (uniquely qualified) All that he Saw, Heard, Felt (lips) moved him into This Special Service! • Worship as Dedication Offering; Invitation; Benediction; Announcements (Opportunities for Service) ILL – I think often of the conversation between Peter & Jesus “Peter, do you love me?” “Feed my Sheep!” App– To See Clearly is a Call to Service; To Hear… His Purpose His People (all people as His beloved creatures) Worship Involves a Bending Exp – True Worship Bends my Will to His Will. Note: The LORD does not “Draft” Isaiah… Volunteers! His Worship Encounter made Him eager to Serve! Remarkable, open-ended, Free, Full submission! “Here am I. Send me!” ILL – We tend to negotiate the Terms of Our Service.. (My sons….) What do you want me to do? How much will you give me? See His Glory Hear His Goal “Whole Earth full of His glory” Know His Grace “Touched…Sins forgiven” Bend Freely to His Will! App – True Worship Moves Us to Service! Hesitating, Holding Back… Less than Worship! Worship = Bowing… Full submission to Rightful King! Worship = Bending Freely to His Will! Conclusion – Worshipping, We Serve God. ILL – I visited my Dad not long ago…. He was working on his Well. • Imagine I pulled up a lawn chair and started telling him about my love, gratitude and respect…. • OR, I could Join Him in His Work! • My Work would give Weight to my Words |
