Passover! Matthew 21: 6-16 Vs. 9 = Singing Psalm 118:25 Notice! In OT we read English, “Do Save, we beseech!” In NT we read Hebrew, “Hosanna!” Conclusion = The Church Knew and Used this Hebrew Word! It was important to them…Core of Worship! Review: Amen, Abba, Hallelujah, Maranatha… Hosanna t/s – If they knew “Hosanna,” so should we. If it was that important to them, it ought to be embraced as essential to us… In our Worship, we want to say, “Hosanna!” Hosanna = Save Now! Save Us Know, We Pray! Hosanna! A Proclamation Exp – Using this “Loaded” OT Word, prominent in the Passover Songs, makes a bold proclamation about Jesus • He Is the Messiah promised in the OT! • Kept the Church Connected to their Hebrew Heritage Note: Vs. 15-16 – Priest heard “Hosanna” as a Proclamation! A Proclamation which Jesus Embraced! (Blasphemy or Son of God!) A Praise Exp – A Clear declaration concerning the nature & Character of Jesus. He is Able to Save Us! Savior! • Power; Faithfulness; Compassion; Rule App – Again, more than poor Rabbi from Nazareth… --- From the Beginning… A High Christology! A Plea (A Humble Prayer) Exp – This word, “Hosanna” is a Prayer It sounds a clear note of urgency and Desperation… “Now” “We beseech Thee!” I Need You! I am Lost, helpless, without Your Intervention! App – “Hosanna” reminds us the our walk with Jesus is not a Partnership… we both do our part… “God Is My Co-Pilot” Conclusion: This Humble Prayer Puts us in Proper Posture!
